I have just bought a 2005 RXP and don't understand why I have to do the flush after each use. What exactly is it flushing? Since it's a closed cooling system, it's not to clear anything that would affect the cooling. Is it to get rid of sand or small stones in the impeller area?

Also, does the engine compartment need to be hosed down after each use?

thanks,

Hi,

If you are running in fresh water... no, you don't need to "Flush" all the time.

If you are in Salt water... YES... flush the engine, wash the hull, and the engine compartment, with a salt removing soap.

OK... yes, you are correct. You have a closed loop cooling system... but you do inject water into the exhaust. So... if you are running in salt water... you want to flush that out.

the engine is cooled by the internal closed loop cooling system, BUT the exhaust is cooled by the outside lake/ocean water, that's what your flushing and yes, you do have to flush after every use when in saltwater. if you don't, it will corrode and eat up the exhaust system.

a quick engnine compartment spray down followed by a quick bomby lube spray is good practice and will keep your motor and externals from rusting and corroding.
