I had my original steering cable replaced around 5 years ago. It has been sitting in my garage for the past few months. I checked the steering the other day and it moves, but it a bit stiff. Do you think it will loosen up at launch time or is there a lubrication process that you could point me to?

Thank you in advance!

My 2006 RXT, I just bought, was used in salt water. It's steering cable is really stiff too. My fresh water 2004 RXP has no problem. The shop manual only has removal and installation instructions. I going to try some PB penetrating oil. Would be nice if we could get some of that synthetic salt water proof grease into it.
So, nothing on the lube maintenance card.

They are not user friendly when it comes to getting grease or lube into them. Normally requires a replacement. Then coat the ends with marine grease to help keep water an salt water from entering the. Able.

If I have to replace mine, I going to carefully drill and tap the new rear cable housing for a zerk grease fitting.

Certainly worth a try. I drill, tap and install zerk fittings on every suspension part of my vehicle. I RARELY ever need to replace any part except brake rotors on my vehicles.

Ok, I just freed up the stiffness of my steering. It was not the cable.

I sprayed lubed all the pivot points on the propulsion system area. And sprayed up into the shaft to the steering paddles.
It loosened up greatly.

Unfortunately, I've found most often it's better to replace a stiff control/steering cable than attempt to lube it. They're expensive though, so I can certainly understand the desire to lube/free them. Also, just an idea but it may have salt inside which can loosen once wet and flushed/soaked with water, so grease may impede this option. If you disconnect both ends, you might be able to chuck one end into a drill and spin the inner cable to loosen it?

Just a few ideas....

Teleflex brand cables are the ones I use for replacement, they're OEM quality and usually trouble free for many years.

Thanks guys!

I have to take the time to look into this as the warm weather gets closer. You guys provided some helpful tips. If I have to replace the cable again I will just do that.
