Just bought the challenger and feel like it has a big problem with porpoising. Has anyone actually installed tabs on this model??? Were the effective? I read the nauticus smart tabs work well for the price?? Any help would be appreciated.

Trim tabs...?

This is not the first time I've heard of the porpoising on these boats. I'm just happy that my old 97 Challenger came with a manual VTS system, that allows me to control the nose of my boat.

There are a couple things you can look at. You can check into trim tabs or even pump wedges. At Riva, they make several things from pump extensions to trim tabs. But, I think the easiest fix for your problem may be something as simple as a wedge.........

trim tabs

Dont Waste your Money on smart tabs. I just put in a set of smart tabs and when I hit a decent size wave One of them broke off. they work, but they dont make the ride any better, its still a rough impact any time your boat hits a wave and top speed seems to be about 8 mph slower. Buy lenco and as soon as you plane out trim them up so you dont brake them off.

Trim Tabs

I ran into the same problem with my 2005 18ft Challenger.

Its seems there was a design flaw as this was the first year for this model.

My dealer installed trim tabs (for no charge) which they got directly from Sea-doo.

This did resolve the problem.

Good luck.

Porpoising 2005 Challenger

I have the same problem. We just bought our 2005 Sea Doo Challenger 180 a month ago and when you go full acceleration it starts porpoising. Once the porpoising starts it wont stop. We ordered some Lenco Trim Tabs although we are having some problems installing them. They want us to install them to the bottem of the boat instead of the lip. I told the dealer we bought it from and he tried to order some straight from BRM and they said they didnt make them for that year or model. HELP!!

I thought the models with seadoo jet pumps came with nozzle trim? In any case, my Mercury M2 powered Challenger also pourposed and I posted a similar question with several options given. Search for that post. I did not want to spend that much money so what I ended up doing is to adjust the factory trim plate all the way down and the ride improved considerably.
