2004 GTI starting issues

When they key is in the displays don’t light up and it won’t start. I checked the power going into the solenoid and it checked out. When I put a screw driver over terminal it turned over. I checked fuses and they are ok. Unless I did see one. When I put the key in I do here a clicking noise but I didn’t even press the start button. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do I need a new solenoid?

If you push the start button a bunch of times without the lanyard on does the gauges come on?

I would check all connections. Something is dead. CHeck all the electrical boxes and connections the the MPEM.
