Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm looking at a 4-tech super charged ski that has a Locked up motor and a bad #3 cyl to rebuild. Price is $1200. I'm trying to find out how bad these motors are to work on? I'm typically a 2-stroke guy. I've rebuilt several outboards along with a few yamaha 2-stroke skis, a 98 sea doo GTX ltd, and a 4 stroke mud motor (but that's different). So I can usually find my way around a motor. However, 4-stroke skis are generally new to me, especially supercharged. So, would it be worth the money and how hard are they to work on? Any items that are "needed" if I rebuild it like the washers on the supercharger? Are the parts generally expensive for this ski or are they average?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on what went wrong. Could be locked up due to a failed supercharger, then you're looking at a pretty big bill since you'd need a supercharger rebuild, new oil pump, and a full rebuild. Hard to say without knowing exactly what is wrong, but they aren't really much more difficult than anything else. Just more to them is all.

I think typical wisdom for these involves a replacement block, not sure who is re machining the crank bores or if it's actually possible. A reman motor with 2-year warranty is the route I'd pursue, maybe you can get a short block assembly but still, the valves might be the ones that must be replaced due to they're known for head coming detached from the stem.....?

When lapping new valves, many have a nickle coating on the face thus should only be lapped very lightly. Might want to check with the specific manufacturer for the recommended approach.
