I recently blew the 1st cylinder in my jet ski. I took it to my local dealer and they said that I am looking at about a new engine for $2200 and about 15 hours of labor. Does this sound right? Its my 1st ski and want to make sure that I'm not getting ripped off.

I also have the option of buying an engine on my own and having them install it. Does anyone know where I can buy them?

Any help is greatly appreciated

If it is $2200 PLUS the labor than yes, it an be done cheaper. Many use a couple of suppliers here at eh site and get the engine for right around a grand and you can buy a no-fault 2-year warranty.

Thanks. The price I was quoted was $2200 for a new factory rebuilt motor and about another 15 hours of labor needed to put it in. I'm stuck as I have no idea how to do this type of repair on my own

Comparing a total cost of 3850 USD (engine plus service) for a 03´ GTX 185HP, what do you think about buy a new one running ok?

Just did a quick search on ebay, and I found this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-SeaDoo...13c0&item=181473252288&pt=Personal_Watercraft

5150USD... maybe less...

It´s faster than the 03' GTX and according the owner, it has a brand new supercharger.
It could be a good choice (or not).

I also have a GTX 185HP, and I´m saying that because I would consider this!

And you also can sell the hull and other parts from your ski.
