Hello, I have a few questions about a 2002 seadoo 4tec. When I put on the dess lanyard I get 2 short beeps, then every 2 to 3 seconds those 2 short beeps continue over and over. Is the beep sequence normal to continue? Next, the jetski will not start. The engine turns over, there is spark and I have fuel at spitting out of the injectors. I tried doing a compression test but I found it to be very strange. Sometimes you get 150psi and others you get 30psi. Seems like it takes multiple revolutions before your hit the 150psi again. All three cyl. do the same thing. Personally I find this odd but I am not familar with jetski engines and dont know how the interal working operate if different then a standard engine. The ski does not even sound like it is trying to fire off. Cranks and cranks like no spark or fuel. Compression is a mystery to me. any help would be greatly apprieciated! Thanks, Jessie00721

yes, beep sequence is normal, it's telling you that you left the lanyard on the post, very annoying.

4 stroke compression is a little different than 2 stroke compression, they only build high compression during a compression stroke. you should be doing a leak down test for really checking cylinder and valve compression condition but it sound likes the cylinders and valves may be fine by your description. the 4tecs don't really stumble or pop much, they seem to start or not start for the most part. if you have spark, fuel, and compression, it should run. if you hold the throttle open, it will never start.

Thanks for the reply. If what you say about the compression is right then I feel it should start, it just does not. any insight of what I could check? I am really pretty lost with this one?

have you checked spark by grounding the plug and looking at the actual spark on the tip of the plug for each cyl? are the plugs new(not just clean)? are the plugs getting wet when cranking? have you tried to put a little gas directly in the cyls? is your battery strong so it cranks quickly? have you tried to jump start from a running car? (don't do this but if you have let us know)

when checking compression, you should crank the engine for at least 5 seconds continuous with the throttle held wide open until the gauge doesn't read any higher and should be at least 150psi.

I have not tried jump starting it with a car. I tried what you said and put a little gas in the cyl but nothing either. The plugs do come out wet under normal cranking. I tried lighting the wet plugs on fire when there pulled the wetness does not catch on fire on the plug. The fuel being put in will catch fire so I know the fuel is good. Not sure if there is water mixing with the gas in the engine? Cant tell by the plugs other then there wet and it the fluid will not ignite on the ends of the plug. If water could mix, what would be my next thing to try? Take the head off and check the valves or or cracks? Thanks again, Jessie00721

I looked again today. Actually the plugs are actually dry while trying to crank it now. Pulling the injectors you can look down through the hole the injectors sit and see a lot of fuel just laying in there. any ideas?

Thanks,
Jessie00721

nevermind, took off the valve cover and seen the timing chain broken, so the valves are not turning, guess I got to pull the engine now :(

before you pull the engine, try and find out why the chain broke. There is no sense in pulling and fixing that engine if something else might be wrong when you put it back together.
