Hey folks, New to ski’s but already hooked! Bought this GTX ran good. Then battery went down. No start, 12v lo , maintenance light on. New battery and rectifier, problem solved 12.8v sitting. 13.9v running, ran good. Read service manual , went over everything ready to call it good and head to lake. Started up one last check, flat out died! Cranks over great won’t start. Checked all fuses with meter and connections good. Checked spark good, put a coil in anyway! Compression 150 both cylinders, fuel good, new pump with regulator!
Put lanyard on, 2 beeps fuel pump runs 1 second, hit start button cranks good won’t fire. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thinking about buying Candoopro system. Local dealers swamped won’t run a diagnostic or look at it 3-4 weeks. Wanted to have for grandkids week after the 4th. Throttle position sensor? Crank position sensor? Air pressure sensor? What am I missing guys? You got 5 sensors talking to MPEM and CPU, and their talking back. Got something wrong or bad, or missing something simple? Hate to be a parts replacer, but gotta do something. Any advice both on problem and CANDooPro system???

If you have spark and compression then you are missing fuel.

Are you sure the fuel pump builds pressure? Are you sure the injectors are firing?

Yes, brand new fuel pump assembly with regulator. New plugs are wet with fuel, can feel injectors click. Been going by the service manual to the letter. Has me stumped! Appreciate you replying. Any opinion on Candooplus system. Willing to try anything

Talked to owner of CANDooPro about software and cords, I was gonna buy system to help with this project! He asked me what machine was doing, said would sell me unit but said he would rather have me check few things before taking my money! Very cool! Even with new fuel pump and injectors clicking, said to pull fuel rail and check for plugged or stuck injectors closed or open because I do get fuel and wet plugs on attempted starts. A stuck open injector would flood cylinder with fuel. Second he said the 787 RFI was notorious for sheared keyway on flywheel on magneto end which is why Could still have spark and Crank sensor function but incorrect timing so coils are not firing at correct time. Said this could be done in hull raising end of engine just enough to remove cover and access for possible repair, he has done them. Last he said the rotary valve! He has seen valve plates bad or damaged. Mostly the rotary valve drive shaft gear fails. Helical cut gear driven by crankshaft. Manual says valve plate and cover clearance can be checked in hull, but the drive shaft engine must come out and cases separated. I wanted to see if I was headed into worst case scenario so removed rotary valve cover, valve plate and surfaces look great, but if I take fingers and rock valve plate and drive shaft back and forth there is about 1/4” movement or backlash in driveshaft to crankshaft . SO my question is anybody out there that has had any of these apart or has repaired rotary valve shaft can tell me if that much play is enough to affect air at intake where it won’t fire?? Remember original post this thing was running great and just flat died at idle just as I was reaching to shut off and head back to lake. About ready to pull engine and do complete rebuild so I have no more big surprises. Because the way this started out I now have a known to be good, fuel pump, coil, MPEM with CPU, Crank sensor. DESS key and post!! Gonna buy CANDooPro, gonna need it for this puppy and anything newer. Sorry so long but this is what did for living for 37 yr’s just giant machinery and now this toy has me stumped until I take a couple completely apart and see what’s in there! Thanks everybody in advance for any advice, greatly appreciated.

Morning everyone, by now a lot read my problems. Will keep this short, anybody had 787 RFI apart? With intake and rotary valve cover off , rocking valve plate on shaft back and forth with fingers how much movement/backlash between rotary valve shaft and crank should there be? Is the shaft drive gear bronze? I think might have worn gear or even have jumped a tooth or two and when I crank to start intake air is way off?? Again thank you to anybody with input

Thanks for at least trying to help me to the 2 that replied, tore into her last night, Rotary valve shaft not turning, bronze drive gear or worse! Who has the parts? Seriously folks I am new to the jet skis. Who has suggestion? I can do the work, need parts, gaskets, Anybody??

Thanks for responding man, please Take a look at end of this post. Who’s got parts? Starting to surf around now. So much out there don’t know who to trust?

I'll put in a plug for Irby's for used parts. I like dealing with them. Good people and down to earth as they come. :)
