2002 GTX DI Fuel pumps

Really good notes DooWacka. I paid the OEM retail - this time! - because the machine was in the shop already...I like your idea of the
cutoff switch and your comment on the replacement fuel pumps draw. That certainly sounds like it could be an issue. When you say you've
replaced 3 - is it on 3 separate machines so I could expect some time for the first one here? In the meantime - what is the manuf name of those $50 units soI can google them? I think it's a great idea to have a few with you.

I think I remember the 3 rectifiers were all on different machines.

The cutoff switches were pretty cheap at Harbor Freight, but even though they are marine grade I still had to spray some anti-corrosive (WD-40) inside of them or else there are sometimes problems.

I found the Rectifiers by just searching on Google and eBay with "Seadoo DI rectifier", or sometimes using the part number 278001554.

For example, here is a hit on eBay for $46 with free shipping:

Here is another from Rare Electrical:

That's great Doowacka! Do you suggest the WD-40 treatment for either of these companies and if so, just when they are installed or as
a regular/often check? Perhaps and the end of season and start of season?

The links I provided are for the Rectifier/Regulator, which needs no WD-40 treatment.

The battery cutoff switches tend to corrode inside sometimes.
I actually first used WD-40 to revive a switch after it failed, but then did one time preventative applications to the other switches, that all are still working now. I just drilled a couple of holes in an aluminum strip used to couple the switch to the battery terminal, then the Seadoo battery cable goes to the other side of the switch.

Here is a link for a battery cutoff switch:

I purchased my cutoff switches at Harbor Freight for about $5, but now they only have these:

Thanks DooWacka...I realized the WD40 comment for for the switch after I read it again. I was hoping you wouldn't
notice.

I can't believe those switches are so cheap. Usually anything related to this hobby has 3 figures involved before the decimal point!

I got my one machine back today and $330 lighter - $173 CDN for the OEM rectifier plus troubleshooting/plugging it in and
so forth - and that was a good customer discount!! Mind you I had them throw it in for me as it was in the shop
already. That would have saved me $50 probably.

I'm going to grab a few of the $50 ones you linked to and be prepared. Great advice and links. Much appreciated!

Yes, the only way they sell it is the complete module with external hoses and filter attached. It doesn't have the fuel gauge, since you transplant your old one. Just bolt it in the top of the tank, connect the two fuel line quick connects, plug in the electrical plug, and you are done. However, you are out around $700+ for the part, even if you do it yourself. In the past the cheapest I've seen the pump was from Parker Yamaha in an add like this:
http://www.parkeryamaha.com/seadoo-fuel-pump-module-275500641.aspx
This link doesn't match my part number, but may be the replacement number. It is ONLY about $650, plus about $20 shipping.
If anyone goes this route, please open the module to get the pump number. That way we can see if they are using up existing stock, or they have a new pump supplier. If they are using "old" OE stock, then the pump would fail to soon as we have all seen.

This cost is the reason many people are going to the High Flow $150 Lifetime Warranty pump, then they rebuild the OE module.

They now supply a different looking pump (with white plastic) that uses 9A, versus the pump shown that uses 12A+ current. They just haven't gotten around to changing their picture. Also they ship a short black hose instead of the long white one. If you plan on not using the spring in the module, you could probably get them to send the white hose instead.
I received a defective FS220 small strainer because their supplier was sending some wrongly constructed strainers.
So, you need to tell them if they sent a wrong part, instead of having to rivet in the strainer, as was done by someone previously on this thread. I'm hoping to put up pictures of my rebuild, to go along with the other great and helpful pictures shown in this thread.

Thanks for catching that "tflessner".
They moved the Guide over to the "How-To Tech Articles".
I also corrected my link above.

DooWacka.....Those are some awesome instructions you put together! As you can see in my signature, I have two 2001 DI Seadoos, plus I just picked up a 2002 RXdi that needs fixed (I know, I'm crazy, or stupid?). I have the aftermarket pumps in both the 2001's, but just have the flex tube installed. So, I printed out your .pdf file and am going to do the black fuel hose and clamps as shown in your instructions.

Thanks a bunch, I appreciate your effort.

From a fellow Coloradoan,
Todd

You're welcome Todd, thanks for the Kudos.
I don't think you're crazy at all, I think the DI are amazing machines. They are also, I believe, the only 2-stroke PWC allowed on Lake Powell anymore. Since Powell is where we mostly go, that is very important.

I like your avatar picture of your doos, I need to get one. Mine all look the same, except 4 on a trailer.

Did you use the HighFlow pumps? If so, which one, the black plastic top HFP-342? If so, how are they doing on your battery and Rectifier/Reg? How many hours do they have on the new pumps? Just looking for feedback on possible issues.

Have fun with your RX DI.

Mark

I put the HFP-342 in both skis. So far so good. There are probably 8-10 hours on them since replacing the fuel pumps. The flexable hose came off in the RX out on the lake (clamp wasn't tight enought). So, that's why I'm going to redo both with the short black hose and sliding-seal tube.

I love these skis also. I know they're complex computer managed machines, and can be hard to diagnose operating issues, but so far the only problem has been the fuel pump. (knock on wood)

We're going to try and get to Lake Powell this year also, that's why I bought these, instead of some older carb models.

The 2002 RXdi I bought is a work in process. It was in a Texas hurricane and is a fixer-upper, but should be nice when I get it done. I'll probably post some pics of my progress, or maybe when I'm done....some before and after pics. It's the yellow and black one, and should look cool when I get it done.

Good to hear the performance results Todd. I myself have just ordered the current High Flow 9a version and plan on getting one set
up so I have a spare "drop-in" pump ready to go. With DooWacka's excellent info piece even I should be able to do this!

I love these ski's too. The only way for me after my 2002's is 4 stroke and I really have no desire to go there. I love the fuel
economy of the DIs and with gas at almost $6 a US gallon in Canada anything helps. I'm dreading the price on the water this
summer :cuss:

I grabbed an 02 RXDI this Fall and may end up keeping this one for the summer as well. Mine is the blue/silver creation. My
friend has the 01 RXDI and I really like those "3D style" graphics on that machine.

First, thank you for the great Forum. I have been reading up and looking for a replacement fuel pump mod to the OEM on my 02' RXDI which had down time last year due to the needed fix. Like Dave on the original post, I'm dreading paying a dealer the $800-$1k to have it replaced. Ready to order the High Flow after market after reading the reviews by Todd, Doowacka and others. Before I do, was curious how the pump has been performing since install?

I have about 35 hours on it now since the pump was installed and I have had no problems. I would say go with it!

Thanks for the feedback baddb1! That is good to hear. I will go for it and the replacement guide will be extremely helpful!
