2002 GTX 4Tec check engine/oil warning

I have a 2002 gtx 4Tec that sounds a check oil or check engine warning on the first start up of the day. The machine then goes into limp home mode. I have checked all fluid levels and everything is fine. The warning usually goes away if I shut the engine off and restart. Sometimes it takes multiple restarts to clear the warning, but it always eventually clears up on its own. Once the machine is done having a fit, it does not do it again for the rest of the day. I have taken it to the dealer, and there are no stored codes in BUDS. I have read in the past about some oil pressure monitors on this engine that are faulty. I have tried to search for these old posts, but can not find them.

Do you think the oil pressure sensors are my problem. If so, does anyone have the part numbers and know where I could order the parts from?

Thanks for your help!

You can retrieve the code/s yourself. Start the ski. Press the "SET" button on the left handlebar 5 times while the engine alarm or engine warning is going off. The gauge will display a code ( P-???? ). Report back with the code.

The early 4 TECS did have pressure switch issues and SeaDoo came out with updated switches.
Part no.420 256 885 is located in the front of the engine, up high.
Part no.420 256 777 is located at the rear of the engine, on the rt side, about half way down the side of the block.

I had the same exact symptoms on my 2002 4-tec. I replaced the front sensor (it was the easiest to get to) and still had the problem. Replaced the rear sensor and problem was solved and has not returned in 2 years. I don't regret changing out the front because I have the peace of mind knowing I have a "good sensor" in the front as well. If I recall, I had to buy a socket extension to get into the rear sensor but no big deal. One thing I learned was to place a towel under the area you are working in the event you drop the spring clamp ( or socket or eye glasses or sensor) into the bottom of the engine compartment underneath the engine. I also learned that a telescoping magnet is a wonderful thing to have in the shop. Overall it's an inexpensive fix and will work wonders.

Yea, there are 2 kinds of those factory installed switches...........The ones that are bad and the ones that are going bad. Typically it is the front switch that fails first. I always recommend replacing them both while you're in there. They're not real exspensive.... about $30.00 ea.

Thanks Dennis and edd.

@ Dennis, I went to Seadoowarehouse.com to order the parts. I could only find one oil pressure switch and it has a part # of 290 256 777 vs the part number you provided of 420 256 777. Am I looking at the wrong part? Can you tell me where the other oil switch would listed in the parts manual?

Thanks very much for you time!

Alan

@ Dennis.

I think I found the other one under "oil separator". Part # 290 256 880.

You provided part # 420 256 885.

I just want to make sure I am ordering the "new" pressure switches and not the old defective ones!

Thanks again.

Alan

Part no.290 256 880 is the old part no. 420 256 885 is the part no. for the updated switch. This is the front switch ( on oil separator).

Part no. 290 256 777 is the old part no. 420 256 777 is the part no. for the updated switch. It's listed under "engine block" in the parts manual. There is a possibility the numbers I have given you may have changed again. If so, it will be shown when you order.
