I have a 2002 GTX 4tec with around 200 hours. Went to change the oil today and the oil was sparkling. Looks to have a decent bit of tiny tiny metal that settled out of the oil in my measuring cup. Is it toast? It ran perfect today. do an oil change every spring. Have not noticed this before but the oil was particularly clean otherwise this year.

Edit: The filter was fairly free of any large or visible metal chunks. the photo on the paper towel ,all of that came out of the filter housing area with a magnet could have been sitting down there before the filter for a long time. I also did research i found out the starter gears are bathed in oil. could this just be from wear on the starter Bendix?

Is your ski supercharged? If so, when was the last time you had it rebuilt, could be the supercharger bearing material or clutch. You said you used a magnet, so it can't be aluminium which is most of the engine. The parts that aren't are the valves, valve seats, oil pumps, crank/rods, cam, starter bendix and roller bearings for the bendix. Did you ever get a oil pressure related fault? Have you checked you oil pressure externally to make sure it is not out of spec, causing something to wear prematurely?
