2002 GTI le new battery, dead until I push the start button....then 1 beep....

Hello all,
Before I get taken to the cleaners I am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction..... Last year the ski ran great, this year bought a new battery, charged it out of the ski (always have done that) put it in. When I put the fob on the post, no beeps and no reading on the gas gauge. Then, when I depress the ignition switch to start it, the gas needle jumps up and if I keep the button depressed, I get one long beep. I do not get the 2 confirmation beeps that I am used to and for certain it wont turn over. I checked the 4 fuses and they are all good, so I dont know where to go from here. I searched the forums but had no success in finding any similar posts. I envision a visit to the stealership, but I'd kinda like to know what I am in for before I go My kids are looking for me to perform a miracle........

This is probably silly, but you have 2 of them right? Did the keys get swapped?

2 beeps when you put on the lanyard.... then one when you push the go button..........


That's a dead batter... bad cable connections... or a shorted starter. Basically... that single beep is the MPEM resetting from low voltage.

Thanks for the answers. We only have one ski now, the other went to seadoo heaven, but i was careful to mark the lanyards . I appreciate the info. I know the battery is charged, so ill check the cables, etc.
