2001 XP no start

We just picked up a 2001 XP and when we press the start button it just clicks. Not 10 minutes ago I got a new starter solenoid put in and it still just clicks, anyone know what it might be?
 
It could be a few things. Is the battery fully charged? Have you checked and rechecked your grounds? Can you tell if the click is just the solenoid, or is it from the starter?

The battery is brand new as that was our first suspicion, as far as grounds I haven’t checked them as I can’t seem to find them. Maybe I’m blind but I’ve looked everywhere and found nothing that looked remotely like a ground. And I’m not sure about the click, it’s coming from the battery/fuse box but I couldn’t tell you whether it’s the starter or solenoid, being as though we just put a fresh solenoid in I’d be willing to bet it’s the starter which was my next guess.
 
Is it a buzzing that is repeated or one click? I just had a 787 gtx with the problem that the starter shorted out due to an insulation piece inside the starter breaking. This caused a buzzing at the solenoid every time I pressed the start button.
 
The ground is the black wire from the battery to the starter. They can look good on the outside, but be corroded completely on the inside.

A corroded ground wire will cause this symptom, but so will a few other things. Check your cables first...
 
I would check the grounds....Does the engine spen free with spark plugs out?
This is something we just tested today, we tried spinning the propeller to see if the engine would spin and we weren’t able to, so we took the propeller assembly off and tried spinning the propeller shaft(sorry if that’s not the right term) and we can’t get the shaft to turn, it’s completely locked in place, is this the problem?
 
Sounds like your jet pump is your issue you can try and bumb the ski starter with the pump off it wont hurt to verify it spins free....Make sure you have the shaft out

If the pump doesn't spin neither will the motor/ starter


Just re-read your comment...were you trying to spin the pump or the motor?

Yep. Try to fire it up with the pump removed. If it turns over, you’ve found your problem.
Just tried it and it still just clicked, I’m thinking it’s probably the starter at this point and I really hope it isn’t because of where the starters located, anything else I can check before I just bring it to a shop?
 
Is this an XP DI? If so, you can change the starter without pulling the exhaust pipe. I only mention the DI because that is the ski I did it on. Probably the same thing on the carb version but the DI is a little easier to mess with the throttle bodies. I took a few pictures but they don't show a whole lot other than testify that I didn't it. Ha ha. Good Luck !!

It isn’t the DI :(, the carbs and airbox are covering the starter and I don’t think I can get the airbox out unless I remove the exhaust pipe, I don’t really know that I wanna go that far though. The 951 is crammed pretty tight in there so it’s hard to get to stuff lol

Removed the jet pump, the turbine spun freely by hand

Tried to spin this by hand and it wouldn’t budge, had a small amount of play
 
You’ll have to grab the PTO itself to try to spin it by hand. You’ll never get enough leverage on the driveshaft itself to turn it over. Just pull both plugs out and see if you can turn it by hand that way.

Yeah we think it’s just seized, we sprayed some penetrating fluid in the cylinders and pressing the start button now it sounds like it’s trying to turn but it continually beeps when I press the start button
 
If it’s beeping while trying to start, you may have the big plug on the mag cover loose.
The beeping was due to the battery being dead from trying to start it so much, charged it up and still nothing. At this point it’s either a seized engine or a dead starter, both of which are beyond my abilities so I think I’m just gonna take it in. I could try and hand turn it but I already put the jet pump back on and I can’t really get a good enough grip on it otherwise. Thanks for the help though I really appreciate it, I’ll update y’all after I take it in cuz I had so many people telling me different things :thumbs-up:
 
If it’s beeping while trying to start, you may have the big plug on the mag cover loose.
The shop called back and said it was the starter, and also that our battery(brand new) was dead. We had them replace the starter and battery and we go to pick it up today and we put in the key to give it a test start and it doesn’t even chirp. We go back into the shop and they bring out their battery tester, and what do you know, the brand new battery that they just used to replace the brand new battery that we put in, is dead. So there’s something somewhere on it that just keeps draining the battery
