I purchased my first Jet Ski this year. I purchased a used 2001 Sea-Doo GTX Rotax Direct injection with 200 hours on it. It ran great all summer until last week. While I was driving, it felt like I was losing power and not that responsive when I applied the throttle. I shut it down and tried to start it 5 minutes later and it would barely start and shut down. I decided to change out the spark plugs and same thing. It would start but barely run and die. To give you a little background of my mechanical experience, I can tear apart any car engine and repair or rebuild it. I would say I'm a high level mechanic. Now, when it comes to these two cycle Sea-Doo's, I will be honest and say I have no idea how these Sea-Doo's tick. Therefore, I'm reaching out to you for assistance as to how to diagnosis this thing. The basic principal of any engine is: Compression, fuel, and spark and it should run. So where to start is the next question: 1)Is there a computer in which I can read codes or do I need a special scanner or can the information center tell me something? 2) I have spark, but how can I check fuel pressure? I read something about fuel lines being a problem on these Sea-Doo's so what am I looking for if the fuel lines are the problem? 3) is there a special way to check the fuel pump pressure because I believe it has gas starvation 4) Are there any fuel filters and where? Are there any type of air filters?
I apologize for the length of this question but I really want to learn about these engines. When answering, please be very specific and step by step
