hello all,
i am new to this forum and to this craft but i am a skilled technician in the auto field, i am having an issue with my ski i just bought its a 2001 seadoo RXX, i bought is basically not running, changed out the battery and removed the carbs for a rebuild, installed all new parts in the carbs they were pretty nasty, got them all cleaned up and installed set the idle and runs perfect at 1500 in the water, the issue i have now is off idle at all it will die with throttle input, if tho i pump the primer pump maybe twice to give it a rpm bump and slowly pull i can get it to take off and runs completely fine above 3100 ish pulls 7100 rpm and will do about 68mph. i believe it may have to do with the accelerator pump but not 100% sure it doesnt appear to actuate the cam for the pump very far at all, and i cant find any info geared towards the rxx specifically, alot for 787 stuff and some regular 951 stuff. any input would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Matt Braley can help you out. You bought a race ski and the settings aren't really out there for it. Especially if someone de-tuned it by sweeping the pipes and carbs. Does it still have the blue twin exhaust pipes on it?

yes is has all the factory rxx race parts, the ski was switched over to a primer pump setup, other then that completely stock, ive cleaned the RAVEs, and also checked compression and it has new plugs and the fuel lines were also changed out already, i knew what i was buying i am leaning towards an accelerator pump issue but idk if the operation is similar to that of a regular 951 ski.

The rxx I think came worth novi carbs, definitely no accelerator pump on that ski. I may have come with the primer from the factory too.

it definitely has makuni twin carbs on it and im fairly certain there is an accelerator pump mounted externally on the cover of the pto cylinder, i went to a seadoo dealer to pick up the carb kits and he gave me the kits based on me telling him it was an 01 rxx and they were correct parts?

Yes they have stock 46I carbs just jetted differently then other 951's. It does sound like the accel pump is not working. You can up the low speed jets 10 and leave the accel pump not working if you want.

which in your experience is better accel pump or higher jetted low speed jet?

Replace that selector and the oring on the separator. Each can cause a tiny air leak. You did keep the original arms and springs in the carbs i hope

i can try those, and i did swap out the springs and arms with the new ones in the kits, i did read alot about the springs being different but i sized them up together and they appeared to be the same

I'd pull the carbs back off. Make sure the 3 tiny holes for the low side are clear. Verify pop off. Probably need to blast the accell ports with carb cleaner

i am 99% sure i just threw out the old parts just the other day gahh. and when you say the 3 tiny holes in the carb throat?

to blast the accell ports i dont need to remove the carbs correct? i think that may be the first thing i try before removing the carbs again worst comes to worst i will wasnt too bad for my first encounter with the twin pipe nightmare haha

Your pop off is wrong with the wrong spring i wouldn't recommend trying to run it unless you want to rebuild it

hmm ive actually ridden it a bunch since the rebuild, probably hour or 2 total, what would symptoms of incorrect pop off be? consequences? like is said before if i give it a squirt with the manual primer it picks up then i can run it just fine so long as it stays above 3k ish, doesnt get hot at all seems to run ok other wise

what is correct pop off for an rxx? i agree it matches the pop off symptom in that post, also if i don't have the original spring anymore it appears i will have to play with jetting on the low side to accommodate for a higher pop off? correct me if i am wrong but.. i have read on here and a few other places that if the pop off is too high you may be able to accommodate by using the low speed adjuster a bit richer and in my specific case it is so lean due to potentially incorrect pop off and potentially clogged or malfunctioning accelerator circuit that it dies, if i correct the accell circuit issue and adjust the ls adjuster it may work?
