Hello. Lately my 2001 gtx has been turning off randomly while it is running and giving me a long beep. However, when i reinstall my key it turns back on and runs fine, only to do it again later. After being told it was my key post i replaced it. Now with the new key post it turned off again and gave me that beep. Ive replaced the key post and its wiring to the male plugs. Does anybody have insight on maybe another issue that could be causing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you try a different key before replacing? I have two keys and it does that with both. Also did you do anything else with that ski? Thanks!

I only had 1 key and the dealer replaced it with a new OEM. Still it sounds like the MPEM is losing connection with the DESS, if you've already replaced the post I think I'd try a new key before I thought about replacing the MPEM.

The post is brand new so i wouldnt touch that. Im looking into replacing the key but id think if the mpem was bad it wouldve told me on advanced diagnostic mode or not start

Check for exhaust leak. ride with seat off. if it stops doing it, you know what to look for.
You could have a cracked pick-up bracket in the stator, or metal shards from the starter getting into the stator coils. Vaccumn them out.

If the ski stalled without giving a beep I would say it could be an exhaust leak or fuel or spark issue, but with the ski giving a long beep and shutting off, I believe that is typically an issue with the DESS.

Moto, if a DESS post is going bad, and you are riding, I believe it would just act as if you pulled the lanyard. No long beep at shut off. Not saying this is the problem. But I don't believe you get a long beep at shut off

I don't think its his post either, especially since he's replaced it already. I would still try the DESS key especially since mine was doing the same thing and a new key resolved it.

Yeah, im planning on going through and checking all the wires. But as moto was saying, it would be a good idea to try the key. Is it possible that the chips in the key can go bad?
