We bought a 2001 GTX thats been sitting for about a year. We pull the motor and put a new top end on it. After installing the motor and attempting to start, the lanyard/key wouldn't do anything when attached. After checking all fuses, I pulled the one in the coil box at the back that supplys the main power and plugged it back in the computer came on and beeped. started up fine. The seadoo will start everytime as long as you dont remove the key. as soon as the key is removed you have to pull the main fuse again with the key attached.

Any idea on what the problem is?

To ME is sounds like a DESS post issue, could be dirty, could be faulty.. And could even be another problem all together. You could try cleaning up the post and lanyard. If you have a manual you can test no start conditions. I wish I could help more but Im not used to your machine..

Ok This is still an issue. Did the checks on the dess post and it tests out find. its clean. Chased and checked all wiring all power and grounds are good to the mpem. I can not get into diagnostic mode with this problem. As soon as the mpem goes to sleep you have to cut power to it.

The only way to start it, is by installing the dess key, pulling the main fuse or the mpem fuse, or cut power to the mpem, and starting it before the mpem goes to sleep in about 30 seconds. It runs great and has no issues except this. I ended up installing a toggle switch inside the storage compartment to cut power while on the water to get it started.

Any help is appriciated

Sounds like the MPEM isn't powering down. It was probably damaged some how by the previous owner... and that is probably why the fuse was popped when you found it.

I would say... it was done by trying to jump start the ski.
