I took the rear e-box cover off just to take a peek and cannot get it back on.
I have the rubber gasket in place even used some silicone grease and cannot get it to snap back on, any tricks?
Thanks in advance Jim.

Nope, just make sure it is going on straight and the locking tabs are not going under the gasket.

I hated to even ask this question because it should be such a basic procedure. I have the gasket tucked into the groove on the lid nicely. I have the gasket lightly greased with silicone. I used quite a bit of force and it just does not make it to the latching point. when I pulled the cover off, even though the one latch is broke it was sealed very well almost like under a vacuum. Must be designed for the lip of the box to go along side of the gasket in the lid rather than a compressed seal. If I can’t get it to seal I suppose I can find some rubberized foam gasket material. Something that Will allow more compression and still seal. I had the exact same issue with my 2002 gtx di rear e-box.
Thanks again Jim

Well I put the seal around the outside of the box 1st like you suggested. I figured there’s no way this gasket is going to go into the gasket channel built into the lid doing it this method. But I tried it- I pushed the lid down and it seemed to seal about right. I pulled the lid back off and the gasket is not in the gasket channel- it stays on the outside of the box. It does seem to seal fairly well so I think I will leave it at this. I just thought the gasket or the seal was supposed to go into the gasket channel in the lid?
Now on to pulling the engine out. Thank you for the tip. Jim
