New to this forum hope this is in the right place also new to pwc and working on them. I am pretty mechanically inclined but mostly work on cars. Anyways I know the previous owner and when I bought it it ran fine in his driveway on a hose no maintenance light or smoke. I get it out to the water the next day it’s smoking in idle I know it’s a 2 stroke so I thought it might be normal I get out past no wake and give it gas it smokes worse. Trailer it bring it home so I just need a point in the right direction. PO already replaced rectifier and battery couple months ago. So on the trailer I’ve checked plugs it has compression the tester I rented is bad will try a different one today it has fuel pressure I see it spray out with the plugs out but I don’t have a gauge, I took the rave valves out and cleaned them looking down the pistons look clean from the rave valve opening, the oil pump cable seems good
the smoke seems less as I let it sit and idle but if I give it throttle at all it smokes worse and maintenance flashes and again none of this was happened in his driveway friday night, I’ve worked on it all weekend and at the end of the day yesterday the 12 volts low light came on I am hoping from start stopping it for 2 days without riding it so any pointers would be nice thanks?

If you have a maintenance light on you need a code reader like CandooPro to find the issue.

Thanks I was going to call a shop tomorrow being Labor Day today from what I see though a lot of shops don’t work on these older di models if it’s a sensor would it be causing that much smoke the light goes off when I let off the the gas so I was thinking knock sensor according to the service manual but I’m just guessing at this point I know I need the codes read

To to update this I found that the 25 amp fuse for the regulator was blown had the ski out today working fine no more maintenance lights I got up to about 55 at 6480 rpm but I can still see the smoke in the water at low rpm and idle so new question could the smoke be from the rave valves or is it more likely the pump or crank case seal? Thanks

Yours doesn’t have a rotary bath so leaking seals will not cause yours to smoke.

So I finally had it out today ran fine then after about 30 min tops on the water it just died going about 30 at 4000 rpm it restarted I turned around and headed back to the dock got 30 ft away felt like it was running out of gas then died again but wouldn’t restart so I swam it back and trailered it but before I opened the seat and there was water coming in through a hose conection that the hose is missing I’ve highlighted the hose in the 2 pics attached I’m trying to see if these are the same hoses in 2 different diagrams and where it attaches to the engine thanks

Also ran fine when I got home so I’m still trying to figure it out lol
Looks like the hose you’re referring to comes out the bottom of the head and flows water out the back of ski top right of the jet pump.

One of my skis had this hose stopped up with sand and it blowed it off the head. With it being detached, water would start to fill the hull. I removed the hose and blowed compressed air through it and reattached it. Been good since then.

Thanks for the reply but I am so confused not knowing a whole lot about jet skis yet the previous owner put all the hoses back on after taking the top end off and the reason I’m looking for this is because In all the pictures in the owners manual it shows a hose going to a small hole just below the turn cable exit mine was open water leaking into the hull In the diagram this is called the cylinder drain hose so I noticed on the other side directly above the speedometer wheel was a hole that was sealed with rv sealant this had a clear hose with the quick disconnect on it this hose is labeled engine drain hose in the diagrams and goes to the bottom of the engine under the propeller shaft guard so is this hose suppose to be sealed closed or should it go to the open hole under the turn cable and also I cannot locate the other drain hose shown to go under the cylinders

Thanks

The highlighted hose is the cylinder drain. Water circulates around the cylinders and indirectly exits that hose. There is a fitting on the back of the cylinders and is very hard to get to without taking a bunch of stuff off. I would get a mirror verify it is connected then verify it is connected to back exit on the jet pump.

The clear hose with the quick disconnect is the case cooler/mag cooler hose exit hose. On DI machines there is additional cooling for the magneto and crank case.
If someone has blanked off that cooling I would get get it plumbed back up ASAP as you will overheat.

Thanks I was going insane looking for pictures and diagrams lol so what would happen if the previous owner was riding with that sealed
