2001 GTX DI Fuel Problems or????

Hello: I have worked and worked on this boat only to ge further in the hole. I think I have read every word in the service manual... Any way. I have done me fuel checks and all is working good for the first two minutes then the fuel presure goes down to around 80 psi then dies. So I found a use fuel pump and installed that and now the presures are good. I reassemble the entire boat again and took it out on the Lake. All was good for about a minute of hard riding. then it went into a limp mode at about mid throttle. as soon as i returned to idle I could take off again for about 30 sec. up to about 65 mph then it would go to mid range and stay there until I release the throttle to idle. I had a red light and Maint. on display with no buzzer. I did this for about 30 minutes on and off and each time it would be the same. I tried a self diagnosis but nothing came up. Does anyone have any suggestions. Oh buy the way I have another Ski the same year and motor with the same problem with the presure. I am in need of a fuel pump for it. any help would be great. I have an 03 RX DI and I'm having a similar problem. I've been reading up on the issue since I won't get to lay hands on my ski for another four or five days. The fuel pump is one of the most common things that causes this problem. There are several other possibilities though. The fuel pickup in the gank has a flapper that filters the fuel. There's also an inline fuel filter that can get gunked up. Bad gas can also cause the problem. It only takes a little bit of water or stale gas to make your ski run terrible. I would think that a clogged injector wouldn't be intermittent though.

When I get home, my plan of attack is to drain and clean the gas tank and the fuel pickup / flapper, replace the gas, and water test. If that doesn't work, I'll definitely be in the market for a fuel pump. Where did you find yours? I've heard that they're made by Bosch and are the same as one that goes on a certain model of car, Volvo 240 maybe? I don't want to buy the whole assembly if I can help it.

Hey: I did find a used fuel pump and bought it thats what got my red ski running, then at least I could trouble shoot it. The fuel pump is made by Air Tec, but they dont make them anymore and would not sell one to me. I dont know who makes them now. Still researching that. I know that the same pump is used in 99 03 di's but dont know who the maker is. if you find out anything let me know and I will do the same. Thanks
 
bad rectifiers can make it do weird things like your describing and they fail constantly on the DIs, I've had really good luck with the $50 aftermarket ones.

Really? Where did you get an aftermarket one? I've pretty much verified that my problem wasn't the rectifier by swapping it and the battery with known good ones.

I hear the fuel pump is made by a company called Air Tec and that they don't make them anymore. Gee, great!

I'm negotiating the purchase of a new one right now but I'd still love to know the history and manufacturer of the pump for sure.

Hey Jeff: Thanks for all the input. I looked at the site you gave me and thats in the UK with a money exchange of about $450.00 I think with some digging I can find one here with a warranty and not be over seas. I did have contact with Bill?? on Seadooforum and did buy a pump from him but was the wrong size and didnt meet spec. He refunded my money and all is well. The problem that I see is that is a real special pump. one with 107psi operating presure is something that cars dont use. I did find a pump in a racing application but was way off in the gallons per unit. So I would like to find someone who has purchaced a new one from Seadoo and see what the new pump is made by. I'm pretty sure Airtex used to make the pump. I'm not 100% on the specs. The minimum pressure is 107. I think the operating range is up to 140 on the high end of the pump's capability. I'm buying one from Bills86e right now. I'll let you know how it goes. I don't think he has any additional ones in stock. There is a place called fuelpumpking.com or something like that. They have one for like $250 but I'm not able to verify much about the site owners so I'd do some digging before I just placed an order with them. I'm hoping not to have to use the pump, that some cleaning will fix it but I can't afford to be wrong because I have plans to use the ski next week.

Hey Jeff: I looked into pumpking......its a scam...his site says it for 250 but when you order it comes up to 450, and he only has one.. then he directs you to phone a number in florida and a asian lady aswnser the phone and speaks very little english. His web site is on a watch list so I wouldnt do business with him. I hope that the pump you get from Bill is the right one.

Jeff, I refunded your pmt. You never opened the sealed package, but you said you were returning it as it had low fuel pressure. You made me look like an idiot when the mfr rep today showed me that performance is way over spec. at 140psi. You
made no effort to connect a $2 adapter. Your loss. Any way, I wish ya Good Luck.
 
Hey Jeff: thanks for the upgrade on your pump. I just bought two 2001 GTX DI Blue ones that have blown motors. I have a whole pump now for sale if your interested. I have two complete ski's and have a whole bunch of parts I am about to list on E-Bay. Let me know if your interested in any of these parts.
