Hi All

Gerry here from ireland, recently purchased a 2001 Seadoo GTX DI (5529)..

had first launch last weekend, few problems, started first go in the water and flew around on it for about 15mins, came back in and stopped engine to let friend on, then engine would not restart, it was turning over alright, would it have been flooded? we took it and put back on trailer, came back to it 20 mins later and it started with first press!

we both then flew around on it with no issues, engine running perfect. after about 40 mins in the middle of skiing engine just died ( we were a good bit out from beach, managed to swim back in), tried to restart but now battery was flat. was the flat battery the reason for engine stopping?

thanks all
Gerry

sounds like a voltage regulator problem, common problem on the DIs, if the battery is not charging, it will kill the battery and die. check voltage while running.

Thanks SKi D00 for quick reply,
upon investigation i discovered that the battery was a bit smaller than what it should. it was 12v 11a/h as apposed to the recommended 12v 19a/h by seadoo. So new battery is first and foremost! am i correct in say i should be reading 13.5v across battery terminals when engine is running? if this is the case this means that the battery is charging, right?

will engine cut out when battery goes flat?

Will the engine cut out when battery goes flat in mid ride?

yes, engine will cut out if batttery goes dead while riding.

yes, but seadoos don't really charge the battery, more of maintain, it's a magneto system, not an alternator. check voltage before starting, during starting, once running at idle, and at higher rpm. that will tell you a lot.

Many thanks for your help ski-d00, really appreciate it. I'll do those checks tomorrow when i get new battery. I'll let you know tomorrow, (it's just 9pm here now)

Right I installed new battery, installed lanyard and got the usual 2 short beeps, but i still only get a solid 'click' noise when i press start/stop button, engine does not turn over. i checked fuses in front elctrical compartment(which i believe is the MPEM), all fuses ok there. I opened up rear electrical box, looks very damp in here by the way, didn't see any fuses in there unless they're buried underneath.

What could my problem be?

Friday 10th, update, - went back out to garage today, a friend advised to test the starter by shorting the terminals, and yes engine turned over, so starter is ok. For the hell of it I pressed that start/stop and hey! it started!! but then it cut out, i started it again and it ran for a minute before stopping, a lot of this happening, wneh it cuts out it's a rather very sudden stop(like the impeller got jammed) checked that, but nothing in there to hinder it. the last time i started it, it ran for for a few minutes, before i stopped, i didn't want it to run too long on garden hose, i suppose my next big test is to put back in the water and see what happens?

i wonder was the original root cause problem was the bad/incorrect battery previously installed, it was a small 11a/h battery, i now have a new 20 a/h installed.

thoughts and suggestions ???
thanks in advance
Gerry
