824003A31 ECU ASSEMBLY

I have one of these for sale. I ordered it to fix a problem I had with my speedster, but the problem turned out to be a sensor, not the ECU. It is open box, but it is new and hasn't been used.

Will work on 2000 Mercury M2 240 SportJet and retails around $2k.

I will take $900 plus shipping

240 efi ecu

What sensor was bad and what was the boat doing? Do you still have the ECU did you sell it yet?

The boat would barely idle under load and would not operate in the 0 - 4000rpm range. If I could get it going over 4000rpm it would run fine to the limit.

Turned out to be the TPS sensor, which I still have some trouble getting it to stay within spec. Its kind of a weak setup to adjust it and the tolerances are marginal.

Anyways, I still have the computer sitting in my closet. Its as new and I don't seem to need it so its available.

The problem with my boat is that it won't rev over 3K. It starts fine. I have replaced everything except what's broken which I haven't discovered yet. I replaced the spark plugs, in-line fuel filter, rebuilt pulse fuel pump, replaced head gaskets (o-rings), replaced anti-siphon valve, cleaned high pressure fuel pump filter, the fuel pressure is a constant 36 PSI regardless of the RPMs, did a continuity check on the stator and trigger, replaced fuel to the bottom of tank, checked air intake, replaced water separator filter, battery voltage is good, cleaned fuel screen on fuel pressure regulator, compression test was 140 PSI on all 6 cylnders, replaced vacuum tube to fuel pressure regulator, all 6 cylinders are firing, checked engine block temperature sensor, checked TPS throttle position sensor and checked the air temperature sensor.

I still need to do an experiment with the MAP sensor. I think the only thing left is the ECU. I will check the MAP in a couple of days. If the MAP shows up bad I would like to buy your ECU.

Is BC British Columbia or Baja California?

One other thing I might need to check are the fuel injectors. I will do that after the MAP test. Standby.

TPS probably bad

I'm pretty sure the problem is the TPS. The first time I checked it I didn't do a good job. The voltage was 0.25 at idle and 6.5 Vdc at WOT. I wasn't worried about WOT at the time so I figured it was good enough. The book says it should be 7.5 Vdc at WOT. I went back and took another look and the voltage wasn't linear at all. At 50% throttle the voltage was only 1.5 Vdc. I adjusted the TPS all the way one direction and the maximum RPM I could get was 2000 RPM. I adjusted the TPS all the way the other direction and the maximum RPM went up to 5500 RPM so I knew I was on to something. I'm going to order a new TPS on Monday and maybe by the end of the week I will be back in the water doing 6K RPM agian.

I took apart the TPS to see what's inside. I found out that it is a 2.0 Ohm pot. The Orange wire is for a 8.0 Vdc input and the tan wire is the return. The Blue wire is the position feedback to the ECU. I don't understand why the TPS is connected in parallel with the engine block temp sensor. And the tan wire doesn't go to battery (-).

TPS didn't solve problem

l got a new a new TPS but it didn't fix the problem. The new TPS is a 10K pot. What finally fixed the problem was replacing the two exhaust hoses. I have the full details on another thread. Just search for johnhibbs postings. Just double click on my name and I think it gets you there. I fixed it today 8/1/2009. The exhaust hoses had delaminated on the inside and they both had a huge blister inside that was blocking the exhaust flow.

Seadoo redsigned the exhuast hose but they still have a problem with it from what I here. I used a www.tridentmarine.com wet exhaust hose. You might not be able to detect the problem by just looking at the hoses. They may look fine on the outside. Very frustrating problem to solve. If you have a 240EFI you should take a look at them. Do they feel soft at the bend? Run it in idle and see if you feel something vibration inside the hose.

I would be interested to here what you find.

Where did you find a TPS? I've had one on backorder for almost a year now.
Mercury apparently is not producing them right now.
Thanks,

TPS back in stock

Mercury starting shipping the TPS sensors back in July. They were going to fill the back orders first. Do a Google search for "BAM Mercury". They have a few extra.
