Went last night and picked up a jet ski for my brother. He had fun riding mine so I helped him find one. He is on a budget so we looked for skis that needed work with out trailers, since I gave him the single trailer one of my skis came on.

I found this XP and its super clean, low hours. No fading, the seats and traction mats are amazing, the hull looks immaculate, complete, nothing missing. I checked the wear ring and impeller and they look spectacular. It truly looks like a low hour ski that was kept in a garage.

The only problem with this XP is the engine was mysteriously seized.... Seller said that it sat over the winter and when they brought it back out for the season the engine wouldnt budge. The seller just pulled the piston cover off and tried soaking it in marvel mystery oil and couldnt get it to budge so he decided to get rid of it.

We gave 500 dollars for the ski. If I am correct this is one of the more sought after sea doos? It has the 951 rotax engine, and it has the special variant of the x4 hull?

Did we give too much? What would cause the engine to seize like that? Do I need to post pictures?

Sounds like it was put away with water still lingering in the motor. Water does extreme damage if left inside the power plant. $500 seems like a pretty good deal for that ski.

no in 97 they changed the hull design on the xp's. the sought after x4 hulls are the 96 xp and the 97-99 spx. that is still a really good deal for that ski if its as nice as you say. i'd start by soaking that motor in Marvin's for a good week, then see where you are. if you get it free re-sleeve it(i'm not sure if the top end kit comes with new sleeves or not.), put a top end kit on her, service the oil injection system, make sure it does not still have the grey fuel lines and hit the water.

not the x4 hull, better imo, but that's for debate for sure, not really sought after, plenty of them around. $500 is a great price, I normally pay up to $800 for them with blown motors in good condition.

Would this invovle pulling the engine out? Or just filling the top of the pistons? Or filling the whole crank case while still in the ski?

I assume the entire motor will need to be pulled but I just wanted to make that clear.

Got the engine out and mostly torn down. The pistons were rusted pretty badly into the sleeves. The crank bearings move but are a bit sticky, dont know if its rust or just gummed up from sitting four years. We got the pistons free, just a three pound sledge and a block of wood. The pistons have cleared the sleeves but the housing that holds the sleeves wont come off of the studs. Any reason for that? And how do you remove the pistons from the rods?

You have to take all the studs out there is orings on the studs and the cyl won't slide over you can use two nuts jammed together to remove the studs then the it will slide off the pistons
