Hello,
I received a 2000 GTX DI with 150 hrs on it. The lady I got it from stored it in a heated garage every winter and said she had not had any problems with it. When I start it up at home, it starts very easily, it seems to have a fairly loud rattle/grinding noise from the jet pump area. It seems to be worse at idle and it comes and goes with throttle changes and it seems to be less of a problem at high power. I am unsure of the actual area the noise is from. The compression and power and response of the engine seems real good. I have only ran it for a minute or so, 4 times, with the garden hose hooked up to it. I downloaded the manual and checked the oil in the venturi and it was clean and full. The drive shaft by the engine has grease. The leading edge of the impeller is very shiny and there seems to be a small 360 degree groove around the area where the leading edge of the impeller is. I looked up the intake under the bottom, but didn't see any problem. Does anyone have any advice. Should I take the impeller off? Thank you

When you get a load on the motor in the water the noise will not be there

Here is a kit you can buy to eliminate that noise if it really bothers you! This cone has a spring loaded Teflon ring that puts a wee bit of pressure on the jet pump bearings which are the cause of that god awful noise. My ski does the same thing. In those years the jet pumps had floating bearings which rattle out of water.

I could use more info on this! Also, Coastie Joe, did you see my question about the oil plug, it was a different question.

Ok,, like most skis, I believe you have a Carbon Seal on your drive shaft. This seal is basically what keeps the ski from sinking. It is cooled by the water you ride in. When on a hose, the water runs backwards as compared to the normal path when riding on a body of water. This is by design so that the hose water FLUSHES and debris. Forexample, if a stick or sand enters the cooling hoses and gets stuck, when you use the hose, it will normally push the debris out.

Important to note is, the Carbon Seal gets NO cooling when on the hose. Thus, you should NOT run the ski for more than 30 seconds or so when on land, and even if the hose is being used to FLUSH (it will cool the engine as is flushes on 2-strokes), the MAX run time is like 45 seconds.

The proper sequence to use a hose is, ENGINE on, water on, run for 30 seconds, water off, then ENGINE off. If you do it in any other sequence, you can ingest water into the combustion chamber of the engine and cause damage.

Clear as mud???

I ran it for no more than 30 sec and there was a few hours and or days between so I should be ok. I downloaded the manual and operators guide so I understood about the water and engine running but didn't know about the seal. Thank you. Also any idea about the oil plug in the jet pump? Did you happen to see my other question? Thanks for the info
