I'm new to this forum and am enjoying reading the posts. I have a 1997 Challenger 1800 which developed a similar DESS/post problem this summer. Two new keys did not work but replacement of the post did seem to allow my boat to start. The problem is my wife will no longer ride in the boat for fear of being stranded once again. I have two keys, a new post, dual engines and she doesn't feel safe. I have a new back-up post as well. Question is: could I insert my second post somewhere along the wire path to act as a back-up to my dashboard post? I would make a bracket for the post and splice it into the wiring perhaps in the engine compartment. If the primary post failed then I would open the back and plug in my key at this secondary location. Any chance this might work (and get me back on the water with family)?

Dess post's very seldom fail. Adding a second dess, is like wearing 2 pairs of sox...If you step in water you feet still get wet. Idf the dess and post is in good condition, it shouldn't ever fail. I travel like 20-50 miles from home in my Speedster and never think twice about a dess failure.

Could you just go out a few times with some friends that have a boat? Then at least there is someone to tow you back. Then once she sees nothing is going to go wrong she might feel better.

I would agree with Karl, if you have a new post and good keys I'm sure you'll be fine. If you wire up an extra post, then you'll have to carry an extra engine, carbs, pump, MPEM....ect, ect.

Good luck, Devon:cheers:
