So I have been having problems with the machine starting in the waterhonedI check the compression at 135psi in each cylinder and decided to find out what the top end was looking like and possibly replace the ring and hone the cylinders. After pulling it apart I am not certain as to how bad the it is. I think the cylinders could be honed but the pistons looked a little on the worn side. I really don't wan't to put a lot of money into it at this point and it is not a big deal to me to do a total top end rebuild down the road. What do you guy's think, should I replace the rings and wait or do the rebuild now? The engine has 94 hrs on it.

With the damage I see in the first and last pictures... I'm surprised that engine was showing 135psi.

At minimum, it needs a top end, but since I'm seeing rust in the first picture... I would just do a complete rebuild. If there is rust in the crank berings... it won't take long for the crank to die. Also... because there is rust... the crank seals could be bad, and that would give you running problems.

Between the rust, and the scars... I'd say that engine was neglected, and it's been overheated, or partly seized.

Do it right and do a complete top end. Why throw away money? Unless of course you have lots of it!
