got and aftermarket mpem. 300 bucks, cant afford 900 for oem. it works fine but just wondering on programming rpm. stock is 7200 rpm and says i can program it to 10000 rpm. what would that do? blow the engine? and also i dont beleive 1999 spx has a rpm gauge on it in the cluster , so how do i know what the rpm is on it? is there a meter or tool i can use to read it? im assuming a timing light , but how does that tell me the rpm?

So, to be clear, you want to modify an 18 year old engine... by raising it's RPM limiter...

without adding HP, your still going to max the RPM by the load on the engine.

Raising the RPM limiter will effectively only let it rev to "10,000" out of water, which, yes, I would love to see how this plays out...

i dont understand your answer. i dont want to modify anything. the mpem has a button you press to up the rpm. just wondering what would happen if i max it out.

Nothing except for maybe holding the throttle wide open when out of the water. Your max rpm when Under load is determined by your pipe, impeller and porting. The rev limiter is there to protect the crank from over reviving and damaging the bearings.

Just set it the same as stock.

You want to set the rev limiter just over what the ski is going to run wide open on flat water. That way when your riding in choppy conditions and the pump gets unhooked the engine won't rev way up. It's hard on the ski when the pump reloads. You can set your rev limiter at 7 if it's a stock ski and be fine.
