Any help on why GTI stalls after going over 40MPH. Will sometimes run OK and then will stall. Will run steady at 40 MPH but will stall on full throtle.

Dale, thanks for taking the time. I assume they do as I have not changed them since purchased. Curious as to what the gray lines would have to do with the problem.

They came with the Tempo Grey Fule lines and they clogged the carb and filters. The come aprart from the inside and make a mess. Go by about 20 foot of Black Atuomotive Fuel line for it and changed them one at the time. Pull the carb off and clean the filters as well. I had to do this to my 2000 GTI this year. It was doing the same thing. After that all is well. If you do a search you will see this happens to all that have the stock grey lines. Job will not take more then 3 hrs to do. Dont run it anymore till you get this changed.

I'm a novice at best and I see this is an old link; however, in case someone else looks up this link in the future...my technician recommended me replacing my old lines with the 1/4" NON-fuel injection grade line. Sounded like smoke and mirrors to me; however, Autozone just happened to have a roll that specifically said non-fuel injection. It took just shy of 20' of new 1/4" line to completely replace all of the hose in the 2000 GTi. FYI. Hope this helps. He also suggested that I replace the fuel selector valve at the same time. It was a good call since the old one was corroded to hell. Be careful spinning off the big 1" plastic nut that is just under the fuel selector switch. Mine broke on me so I was forced to MacGreuber it with some Gorilla glue, a light clamp to close the new gap/crack and then put a thin strip of zip-tie on the side surface of the nut to bridge the crack along with a pile of gorilla glue. It made for a nice and strong tourniquet
