I have a 1999 challenger boat with twin 787 engines. I put new engines in this spring. Went to start them, both engines started. The starboard engine would not start after shutting it down and trying to restart. It had no fire. So put a new stator on it and it again started once. It will not start a second time. The port engine is fine and starts and runs each time I try it. Does anyone have any idea what I should check or try to diagnose the problem

when I try to start that engine the starter kicks out when it gets some compression against it. could that be the problem? If it would keep spinning do think it would start?

jump the relay, see if it kicks out and stays out, if not, then inspect the cable from relay to it, if good, remove starter....try it with plugs out, see if "start/stop" button, kicks her out.

This is probably a dumb question, but does it matter which wire coming from the coil goes to which spark plug?

okay - getting fire

alright - so now, I'm getting fire - but still won't start. - So is it a timing potentially?

is there a good article - on setting the timing on the 787's.....do the engines need to be pulled to perform it?

did yuo at all, remove the mag cup from the flywheel?

Pour a cap full down spark plug holes, and then kick it over.

no I have not had the mag cover off. What is real strange is that the engine did run 2 times, but will not restart is it possible that the timing could have slipped. I am not real familiar with this type of engine, if it was an old chevy or mustang I would say it is out of time, by the way it sounds. It sounds like it backfires or kicks back like an engine out of time.

maybe, the trigger coil bracket is broke,. and the coil is hanging around, behind the mag cover, OR your RV is not timed. Needz to be at 147/65
