My name is mike and I am new to the forum I have a 1998 sporster 1800 that has ran perfect untill the last time i cranked it it cranked for a second w the choke on then i went to crank it again and nothing it doesnt seem like it wants to crank as hard as the other motor that one runs fine changed the plugs checked for spark had spark no change do you think I need to rebuild the carb or does it sound like something else to you thanks for any help.

Hey Mike...could be your starter, relay or a blown motor. Remove your spark plugs, and the grey shield on back of motor and turn the white "wheel"...(pto), if smooth, then no blown motor. Next locate where the red cables enter an ebox. Undo the lid and locate the relay, where the red cables attach to. You'll see 2 posts, jump them with a screwdriver and see if the starter kicks out. If it does, you need a new relay, if not, then you need to inspect the red cable from relay to starter ,if thats good, then remove the starter and get either the brush kit for it, or a new starter.

Thanks

thanks turned out to kinda be a fuel issue, I went to take the carb out and found that the fuel line that ran from the gas tank was dangling there and the brass nipple that goes to the fuel pump was broken so for now i drilled the remaining brass out and rigged up the fuel line and it runs perfect..BTW any sugestions on where to buy a new fuel pump. Thanks for all the advice.
