1998 Seadoo GTX fuel problems

Just bought this GTX fuel injection at a yard sale, got it home and won't start . Has good fire on the plugs but no fuel. Fuel pump and oil pump will not run. Disconected the wires on both and got only 5 volts on each. Is that normal? Thank's for any help

the seller was a lawyer that lived on a lake here in central Fl. He bought it new and had a new block installed in 2002. Was used till 04 and has been sitting sence then.

There is a water line in the front under the bucket, but it don't look like it reached the electronics. All the gauges work, only the fuel pump is not working. Does the pump take 12 volts to run? Only getting about 5 too it. Could the computer be bad from moisture. This is my first ski and don't know much about it.

I am a bit unfamiliar with the fuel injected models, but will take a look at my 98 shop manual when I can and see what it has to say. In the meantime, hopefully someone else will pick up on your question.

Also, you sound like you want to do your own work with the ski, so it would be in your best interest to pick up your own copy of the shop manual. You can download them from this site if you sign up as a premium member.

$350...That is a great price, and hopefully, you get the ski running without having to put too much into it.

First, check to see that the 7.5A fuse located on the MPEM is not blown. The fuel pump is on that circuit.

Also, while we are talking fuel...

If the machine has the gray tempo fuel lines, you are going to want to replace those. They corrode internally from the ethanol in gas and can clog up your system. Since you are fuel injected, you will have to replace them with fuel injected rated hoses that you can buy at any auto parts store.

So from the shop manual, to diagnose fuel delivery problems, you are suppose to connect your machine to an MPEM programmer tool, which will give you fault codes for any failures (you will need to go to the dealer for that).

So, a few things you can do on your own:

Battery -Test your battery and make sure it is fully charged. It should read ~12.7V.

Fuel Pump - You can check for fuel pump operation by attaching the safety lanyard(key) on the switch. After doing so, the fuel pump should run for approximately 1 second. If it doesn't, check the fuse I mentioned before (although if you are getting voltage, as you said, unlikely fuse is blown).

If the pump works, then you want to test the regulator.



Regulator - The regulator is mounted on top of the fuel pump assembly (on top of gas tank). To test the regulator, you need to do a fuel pressure test.

1. Put a container below the quick connect fitting on the fuel rail (gas will be coming out)
2. Cover the quick connect fitting with a towel.
3. Press both tabs and disconnect the quick connect fitting
4. Install a fuel pressure gauge on the quick connect fitting
5. Install safety lanyard(key), this will activate the fuel pump (just like the above test). The fuel pressure should be between 386-414kPa (56-60psi)
6. If pressure is too high, you need to replace the regulator.
7. If too low you need to check your: fuel hoses and connections (for leaks), fuel filter (for clogging), otherwise, you may have a bad fuel pump and/or regulator.

page 193 in the '99 FSM starts the fuel pump stuff.

Personally I'm not a fan of the RFI ones... too much to go wrong... but I do like not needing a choke to start it...

I have the same machine as you. Im sure you have checked this, but i will throw it out there anyways. On the right side , there is the fuel selector switch, make sure its not in the off position, or switch it to res!

Yeah, this is one of those DUMB things that can get you from time to time. Good to point this out.
