1998 GTX Limited Starts runs great then shuts down on me and won't stay running.

I have a 1998 Seadoo GTX Limited that was running great and then out of the blue shut down on me. I changed the plugs and fuel filter took it back out to the river and it started right up. It seamed to be running great but then as soon as I went over 5000rpm it would shut down. I rebuilt the carbs and replaced the fuel lines and the oil filter. Just took it out to the river was up to about 56mph when it shut down again. Once I got it running again it would run at low speed for about 30 second then shut down. Not fun when I was 1 1/2 miles from the dock. I had to be towed in I am sure my starter is fried but I don't understand whats up. I have a fuel tank of fuel and oil runs great in my driveway but shuts down on the water. What should I look at next? Any help is appreciated this is my first jetski and I am lost. Thanks to who ever helps me.

Lets start with the basics, get a compression reading. When you changed the fuel lines did you overhaul the carbs. and clean or replace the fuel selector valve?

Yes I bought two rebuild kits and completely overhauled both of them. I also took off the fuel selector and cleaned it out. Thanks for the response.

looking for solutions to my problem, I found yours, my 98 GTX LTD would go dead for no reason, I went to check the motor ground ,had to remove air box and then I had power, so thought loose ground wire, tightened it ,still on and off, so I ran a ground wire from the ground on the mag cover to the battery, no more problems, hope it helps, good luck

Good thinking. But in this case, Start off with the basics as Lou said. Compression readings will help. Does the ski bog or hesitate or slowly wind down or just cut off like someone pulled the lanyard off? When you rebuilt the carbs, did you verify the pop off pressure? Were they genuine Mikuni rebuild kits?
