1997 xp alternator

Where is the alternator on the 97 xp located. Or stator? I'm not sure what these have

Stator

The stator is located behind the front motor cover, it's behind the flywheel.

Thanks. How difficult is it to replace?

Doesn't look too bad, only thing is you will have to remove the flywheel, and it takes a special puller.

the stator IS NOT behind the flywheel. Its mounted to the inside mag cover.

The "alternator" is whats calledthe rectifier, thats located in the front grey ebox, yellow square looking thing.

Test it, by reving motor to 5500rpm, while holding there, volt-test the battery. Should be 13.5-14.5, if in 12's or 15's, replace the rectifeir
