1997 Speedster starting problem

Howdy all. Couple years back I got some great advice from ya all and had my boat running and zipping around the lake. Well during my fixing process a couple years ago I accidentally cross threading a bolt on the cylinder head cover and at the end of the year the corroded bolt broke and water came through the cover. Over the winter we took the cylinder head cover off and then carefully removed the cylinder sleeves and took it to a machine shop to have the broken bolt drilled out.

Last week we got all the new bolts and a gasket set and put it all together again. We did a compression test and got about 125 on all cylinder of both engines. The problem is that when the spark plugs are out of the engine we took apart it rolls over exactly like the other engine does. When we put the spark plugs in it almost seem like it doesnt have enough power to turn over. Anyone have any thought to something we may be over looking?

clean the ends of all the cables. if that doesn't help, it's time for a new starter. (assuming the battery is good)

thank ya for the advice Doc. I am getting a new battery today and will make sure all the wire connections are clean before I try again.

The starter is what I was thinking it may be since the other engine turned over and started just fine. I didnt think about checking the wires to make sure the connection is clean though.

Now if it comes down to the starter needing replaced, I saw some people were talking about the engine having to be removed to change it? Is that right? I can see the starter and I was hoping worse case scenario and I can remove the exhaust and reach it.

If you discover you can remove the starter without pullin' the engine then it might be worth swapping the known good starter from other motor. This is one perk of having two motors (i find anyway) it would totally suck if you put a new battery in had the same symptom then bought a new starter and still had the problem as a result of a poor connection/bad ground etc.
