Hey guys i'm new to SeaDoo Forum. I'm hoping you can guide me in the right direction to solve my issue. Here goes:

Its a 1997 Seadoo XP 787. (Buzzer is missing on ski) If you put the DESS key onto post and press the start button, nothing happens. If you leave the DESS key OFF of the post and hit start, i know the trim gauge should kick up, but again nothing. I jiggled the key a bunch and finally got it to hit the starter every slight once and a while, but not a solid spin over. Now, key ON or OFF nothing happens at all. 5 amp fuse isn't blown. VTS doesn't operate either now ( i think it runs through mpem but not sure?) Could this just be a bad post? Can the post it's self just go bad? Because if you jiggle and mess with key enough it still tries to turn the starter over every once in a while.

If anyone has any idea to what my problem may be, please reply. Thanks so much.

Wellllllll............

There is no reason to even try to answer since we don't have a starting point. Hook up a buzzer, and tell us what you get.

It is the post! I struggled with this for two summers, thanks to this forum, i went and bought a new post from a dealer, about $80. Problem solved and no trouble since. Also, you can get a buzzer from Radio Shack for around $12. Just take the old one with you, they have one that is almost identical and fits in the hole in the hull.

Key/dess

Will a bad post cause the VTS not to work also? Because with the key off, and i hit the start button, no gauges, no trim, no nothing. Weird.

Please reply. Thanks!

plug the key on the post and jump from the solenoid, see if you get anything. vts and all that should work when the key is on the post, we need to hear 2 beeps though, got to get a buzzer man. unplug the connections from the comp. and clean. plug back in. my center plug was not pushed in all the way from the orange seal and it caused the same prob. on my gsx. i plugged it in hard w/o the seal and she busted off. sounds gross but spit in the lanyard hole and put back on the post too, dawn dish soap works well to clean em too.

!!!! make sure the battery is fully charged too !!!!

Yeah buddy, i'm going to go buy a buzzer as soon as i get off work. I plugged the key in last night and jumped the starter solenoid and the engine turned over fine, but no spark. I pulled both plugs out of computer and cleaned several times, but nothing. When i put key on post VTS doesnt do anything. Just a slight clicking sound (almost like a bad ground). Someone also recommended that I check the ground at the starter to see if that would change anything. Yeah battery is fully charged, its two days old and stays on a trickle charger. But its weird. before all this occured, with no key on post, i could press the start button twice and the trim gauge would kick on and show me where the trim was positioned and i could operate it. Now it doesn't do anything. I'll put buzzer on as soon as i arrive at home and splice it in, and get back to you tonight. Thanks for all your advice man.

Well...I got home and installed at buzzer on the ski. Put key on post. NO BEEPS at all.

I went through and pulled the main harnesses to MPEM and cleaned and made sure they were getting good connection. No Beep or start

I checked all Positive and Negative connection points and cleaned well. No beep or start.

I checked all fuses, cleaned blades and ports. No beep or start.

Battery is still charged at 100%.

The ONE and ONLY sign of life out of the ski is if i jump the starter solenoid and spin the engine over (turns over fine)

Now i'm really stumped, not so sure its the DESS post anymore? I know i said it before, buit If key is off DESS post, hit start button twice, and vts was operatable.
