1997 Seadoo flywheel rubbing problem

I have a 1997 Seadoo GS with a Rotax motor. I have replaced the starter a few times because to me the flywheel seemed to be moving closer to the block causing it to rub on the starter gear. Now I know for a fact its moving because it died on us again and when i tore it apart i found that the flywheel has moved more and now its rubbing on the block. Is this a common problem with these? Am i looking at a complete rebuild? What would cause the crank/flywheel to move like this? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The flywheel can’t get closer to the block unless your crank bearings have failed.
