1997 GTX engine dies

I have 1997 GTX Seadoo. While riding it last week the engine would suddenly stop. When the engine stopped it was at different power setting, high speed, low and idle. When the engine stop I also last all power to the gauges, it was like the ignition safety lanyard was pulled off. I could get electricial power back by pulling the lanyard off and pushing it back on. I made sure I had good contact to the safety lanyard switch each time I reset the lanyard. This problem happened 5 times in 2 hours of operation.
I did some troubleshooting my self ( I'm certified aircraft mechanic) I used my volt/ohm meter and check the start and safety lanyard switches for: proper opertion, intermittant "opens"and loose connections and chaffed wires-none found in the circuts. Could my problem be in REV limiter? or some other circut in the MPEM?

Thank you

Jeff I had the exact same problem with my 97 GTS. I pulled the electrical box, actually I pulled the entire electrical system out of the machine. I tightened all the post connections and positioned the wires inside the electrical box so that they were less apt to cross the posts. I also removed the ground from the engine and retightened it as well. When I removed the electrical box that included the lanyard post, as I said in an earlier post I shook the lanyard post in hopes of realigning any magnets (as I have been told thats whats in there) that could have become lop sided. Hooked everything back up and have not had the problem happen again as of yet.

I know it sounds stupid, but it gave results ... at least as so far anyway.

I basicly did the same thing. What I did find was loose connection splices inside electrical box. Pulled the splices apart and re-crimped the ends for a tight connection. I took my GTX out for ride yesterday for a full ...hour....no problems.

Thanks for the help.

Great! I am glad it helped. I have run 2 full tanks of fuel through my GTS without having the problem happen again. I hope you have the same luck with yours.

Can you guys tell me how to get the electrical box out of my 95 GTS? It should be the same as a 97. Do I have to pull the fuel tank? I have the same problem of sudden engine dies. Mine always restarts immediately with pressing the start/ stop switch. I am suspecting some loose connection or short.

I have not looked at the manual for the 95 but if it is like my 97, you pull the battery, and then release the box from it's holder by pressing the retaining clip close to the exaust. You will have to move it into the area where the battery was to get it out ..

My problem has returned, but while I had it in the water and the storage box out, I held the start button with the lanyard in place, at the same time I pulled and twisted the lanyard post wiring and it began to fire .. so I am going to try to replace it .. I saw no new or other wise loose connections in my box. All volts check'd out as they should, and I got connectivity when I should and shouldn't with the ohm meter.

It really is a pain the tail.
