Hey guys,
just joined the forum. I'm getting desperate. my 97 GTI wont stay running. last summer my brother rolled the seadoo and we couldn't get it to start again. we tried starting out of the water with no luck. I'm trying to get it ready for this years havasu trip. I replaced all the fuel lines and bypassed the fuel selector, I also cut out the original fuel filter and put in a new one so I could see that fuel was actually flowing, replaced spark plugs last summer as well. I currently have air filter off and have been spraying starter fluid in. when I do this it fires up and runs till the starter fluid burns off and then dies. Keep in mind it has dual carbs,

do these have fuel pumps?........

I'm about to sink it to the bottom of the lake so any help would be appreciated

Ok,, do not use starting fluid as there is no oil in it and your engine will destroy itself.

When you installed new lines, did you rebuild the carbs? Did you remember to install the pulse line?

If you did rebuild the carbs, did you use OEM Gaskets and replace the needle and seat? Did you change the pop off spring?

Ok thanks for the tip on not using starting fluid. I plan on pulling the carb tonight. And what is the pulse line and where is it located

Ok,, if you had GT Fuel Lines and swapped them out, then you also needed to replace the fuel selector and rebuild the cabrs using ONLY OEM gaskets and the Needle and Seat.

The pulse line goes from the block to the fuel pump. This lines pulses and moves the diaphragm at the fuel pump and that is how the fuel gets to the carbs.

One second and I'll post pics of why it is important to do all I said as this green goo gets to al the connections, fittings and ports. The ski will NEVER run right until you do these things.

Further,,, it forces it to run lean. Which means less oil,, which means the engine basically eats itself.

Ok mine looked similar. I didn't replace the fuel selector I bypassed it by blocking the the main fuel line and only pulling from reserve, I'm not concerned with running out of gas. And I read somewhere that these don't have fuel pumps. Does the pulse line act as a fuel pump? And if you could post a pic of the pulse line

I don't have a pic, I'll do some digging though. racerxxx or LouDoo may.

The pulse line is not the fuel pump. It goes from the block where the crack case pulsations force air movement. The air moves within the pulse line and pulses the diaphragm of the fuel pump. I believe the FP is mounted on the carb though.

Ok so I rebuilt the carbs, bypassed fuel selector, and replaced fuel lines. I finally got some time off work to get it done. Now it's running like a champ. Plus i found out that it's a 96. Thanks for all the help
