1997 gti idles fine will only run with choke on

Hi I am looking for some help if any one can. I have a 1997 gti just put a SBT engine in it rebuilt the carb it starts fine and idles fine when I put it in the water when you give it gas it dies if you pull the choke on some it takes off and runs at about 1/4 throttle if you give it full throttle it dies. I then changed all the fuel lines does the same thing any suggestions.

Is the fuel filter clean? Sounds like its still in the carb. Did you take out the needle and seat? Did you clean or replace the tiny filter inside?
Try squirting some carb cleaner through the low mixture screws. Make sure you count the turns before you take the screw out.

I did clean the fuel filter and I replaced the small filter in the carb and I did take out the needle and seat.

You sure it idles fibe or does it sound seem kinda boggy? Cause to me it sounds like a strong lean issue. Could be floats sticking or mixture skrew not adjusted right.

yes it does idel fine, when out of the water if you give it gas it has a dead spot then if you kind of pump the throttle it will go up to the rev limiter

What do the plugs look like? It still sounds like a lean out.

Have not looked at the plugs how do you adjust it to make it richer

First I would pull the carbs off and clean them and do it slowly as to make sure I didn't miss anything.

If somthing IS plugged and it gets coverd up by adjusting you could be sorry.
