1997 GSI battery ground

I noticed several references on these Seadoo forums about a second small ground wire. I couldn't see where I had one and the wiring diagram for the GSI doesn't reflect one. It shows the main ground being hooked directly to the starter. I'm wondering about that connection which I cannot see as it's under the exhaust manifold. It started fine in the garage two weeks ago. Nothing when I finally launched it at the lake. Advice anyone?
 
The 787 motor is the engine that has the small Ground wire coming from the rear electrical box.

The 718 motor does not have this second small ground wire. Nor does it have a rear electrical box. It has the grey electrical box mounted on the left side of the fuel tank. The main Ground is the hard wire going to the starter from the battery.

For the no start situation...has your battery been charged and load tested? Where are the compression readings at? Fuel knob turned to 'on'? What's the history of this ski? i.e. maintenance
 
Thanks for the quick reply. My battery has just been charged and is fairly new. Haven't done compression check. Engine seemed to start and run very well in my garage. History is unknown, I bought it cheap, replaced start/stop and DESS switches, started and ran it in garage, hauled it to lake for 1st time a week ago and nothing. Starter spins engine fine when jumping solenoid.
 
So when you put the ski in the water the starter turns the engine over and it doesn't start? Or does the starter not crank the engine when you put it in the water?

It is normal for a jetski that doesn't run in the water to start fine on the trailer. If the engine starts and runs fine on the trailer but doesn't when it's in the water you probably need to start by rebuilding the carb.
 
You need to verify you have 12v at the MPEM. Take a volt meter or test light put the clamp on the ground stud in the MPEM box and touch the exposed metal parts of the fuses. The light should be bright or the meter should measure 12v. That's the first basic step I would start at.
 
If you post a picture of the wires in your box I can point it out but it's easy to identify. It's a threaded stud with a few black wires going to it and a nut on top holding them down.

I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the GSI, I didn't know the MPEM wasn't housing in a grey box. If the battery is close enough hook the test light to the negative battery terminal, or in the last picture you can see the 3 black wires coming off the coil will work too.
 
Found (after overlooked) the MPEC fuse blown. Replaced it and tried to start it. It beeped and then cranked a bit sluggishly and then blew the fuse again. Not knowing any baseline on this thing, I pulled the plugs and strayed some fogging lube in the cylinders, replaced the fuse (again) and spin it over briefly before it blew the fuse again(?). Tried to replace fuse and do the five red button diagnostics test but it didn't do anything but blow the fuse (again). Out of fuses for today. Not sure where to go next.
