Hello everyone!
I just purchased a 1997 Challenger last week because we have recently moved on a lake and the canal that we live on isn't deep enough to hold my cruiser.
Needless to say there are a couple things wrong with it but what can you expect for a boat that is 12 years old.
First off I need some understanding on what should be my number one priority for the operation of the boat. I have really heard some horror stories about not maintaining them and losing a engine. I have recently changed the spark plugs and drained the oil tank because the previous owner (owned it for 6 months) had put cheap 2 cycle Wal-mart oil in it. I drained it and put the Premium Quicksilver (full synthetic) in it. I am still having some problems with one of the engines going to 3500 rpm and not coming down. The other engine goes to 1000-1500 and stays. The guy that I bought it off of said that one of the engines were replaced and the other was rebuilt (if that matters). Also when I start it in Neutral (no matter what engine) it goes in reverse. Hopefully someone can give me a starting point on what I should do.
