I am new to the world of PWCs and recently bought a 1996 XP that I knew needed a little work. The prior owner had the engine completely rebuilt about 2 years ago after which it ran great. Unfortunately, he left gas in it while storing it for the last year and a half and he admits that it won’t start despite his best efforts. So I figured a simple fuel system flush and carb rebuild is all that would be needed. Unfortunately when I bought it the battery he had was completely dead so I did not get to test it out, which is really coming back to haunt me!
Over the past couple of days I have managed to replace all of the old grey fuel lines and spin on fuel filter. I also removed the carburetors to allow for a full carb rebuild. With the carbs now off I have easy access to the starter so I figured I would throw in the recently charged battery to make sure the starter worked. After connecting all 3 cables to the battery (one red to aft elec box, one black to starter, one small black to aft elec box) I hit the start button and heard absolutely nothing…no clicks, buzzing, or grinding. Please help me to diagnose this problem.
Here is the troubleshooting I have done so far:
- The battery voltage was a little low (11 volts) so I pulled it again and put it back on the charger.
- I opened up the aft electrical box which had a little water in it but all terminals and connectors looked clean and in good shape.
- Checked all 3 fuses in the forward electrical box and they are fine. Everything in that box looks clean and dry.
However here is where things may get ugly. I was on the following site looking for where the fuses are located:
http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/seadooforums/Seadoo_oem/Seadoo_PWC.asp?Type=13&A=35&B=9
I noticed a part in the diagram that I don’t think I have in my electrical box (Part 4 ELECTRONIC MODULE ASS'Y). I see the two spots on the cover where it could have been screwed in but there is nothing there, see picture.
Should I have one of these or is this normal for is it only in some models? I don’t see any connectors that aren’t connected so I feel like maybe it never was there. Or did I just get taken to the cleaners by the prior owner for a $750 part? :reddevil:
Please don't tell me I go screwed!
