My engine runs great until I reach about 5500 rpms then it dies out. I have cleaned the carbs and that didnt help. I am not sure if it would be electrical or someone mentioned a rectifier, but not sure what to do with that. I am not very experienced at these things yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Carbs aren't clean, or yes... it's the rectifier.

The problem with the rectifier is that if the voltage goes too high, and the electronics go crazy. Get a volt meter, and put it on the battery. Start the engine, and bring it up to 5500 RPM. The voltage should be no higher than 14.5v.

If the voltage checks out... go thought the carbs again.

Where in PA are you? My shop is in Latrobe. I may be able to help.

Felton, Pa. I will try to check that and see what I get. Trying bad to have running correctly by tomorrow - leaving for VA for a few days. Thankyou

mostly just bogs out

mostly just bogs out, but occasionally engine shuts off, but it will turn right back on.

disconnectthe red wire at rectifier, then go run it. Make sure, battery is fully charged. OR, fire ski up, on trailer, with water goin thru it, rev/hold rpms at 5500, voltmeter the battery. If in the 15's or 12's, then replace the rectifeir.

I had a similar problem with my '95 gtx i found out it was sucking air through the filter when it hit the higher rpm. try bypassing the filter and use a new inline filter, there only like$5.
