1996 Seadoo SPX with WORX sponsons

I just obtained my first 2 stroke Seadoo, a 1996 SPX. It has set of WORX sponsons on it. From what I have read online, they are supposed to make it turn faster, or handle better. There are a total of 4 holes on the back, 4 in the middle, and 3 toward the front. Am I correct to assume that the higher that they ride on the water, the faster the ski, and the lower that they are set, the better it will handle, but increase drag?
