This is you 96 gts. There's a big difference.
Also your peppy 587 doesn't even belong in that ski. It's supposed to have a 717
Someone did a hack job and pieced together a working ski hoping to sell to a unsuspecting buyer.
Guess we know where "ride it like you stole it" comes from.

Unless the vin has been swapped you have a unique ski. The 96 gts came with a single carb 587. But normally it would have been the old hull design until 2001. Seadoo has not offered a ski with that hull design with a 587. The first gts with that hull came with a 717.

maybe i misread this, but that hull design for the gti actually came out in 97 (yellow and white), if it was a prototype, it would have been those colors, sorry, not trying to beat a dead horse, but just another angle that i didn't think was covered

regardless, i actually think you made out pretty good on your trade, and you have a really updated looking ski!
also just curious, what's the top speed on it?

i am good freinds with the guy that sold it to me. he didnt switch anything. i know that. i am going to enjoy it with my xp. i am going to call bombardier tomm.

well i can clearly read the protoype sticker. saying designed for" hosting and demonstration purposes""seadoo r&d bombaardier"

Regardless if sticker says r&d it's a sticker.
That year title is not that ski. That ski is nothing special.

Yes, SDB the 1995 had a 587.
The ski he posted is a 2001 and comes with a 717. Not the first generation engine a 587.

Still waiting to see said sticker

i dont know the top speed. the instrument cluster just has a fuel guage. i have a 1992 xp which i know can do 45 or so. and it is pulling away. when we were side by side. it feels like it has more pull. i wonder if the pump is bigger?

Y'all are both right, it come with a 587 and a 717. It must have been a real dog with the 587, with the 717 there's not much difference between the GTI and the GTS with the 717. As we say in KY "it don't make no sense".

96 was a change over year, I think SeaDoo just used up parts they had and then introduced the new models, ie GTX, GSX. The ski in question looks like a 96GTX hull with the wrong engine. I'm just thinking to myself the two hulls have different engine mounting points, so that "don't make no sense" either.

well i found out the motor was changed . i just called my buddy. when he bought it had a 720 with a piston hanging out of it. so he pulled it and put a fresh 587 in it. good compression and running like a champ. so i have found out that the motor has been changed . but it runs great. wonder if i should change it or just run it till this motor dies and then change it. the motor looks clean

If I were you I would just be quiet and enjoy your new ski. If you dig any deeper you will most likely find that more than the engine has been changed. Good luck and enjoy the new ride.

The fact that the ski originally had a 717 validates all of our suspicions. The ski may have been prototype at some point and time but not in 1996. The VIN on the ski has been changed.

Having said that, leave that 587 in it and go enjoy the ski !!!!!

just wondering while thinking about it. what do you think i could get for my 1993 yamaha wr500 wave runner? it runs perfect and the compression is 125 per piston. i need to get rid of it. 3 skis are one too many.but i was also thinking about hanging on to it. its a fun ski

what is compression supposed to be? i'm not too familiar with that market, but for a running ski, i would just ask 1K give or take a few hundred, and take whatever reasonable offer you get, in my opinion cause that body design, you might get 600ish, assuming it runs well

well i know that my buddy didnt steal it. the old guy that owned it before i dont know. i am going to have fun with it. i will say that the vin matches and my buddy said that the vin under the tank matched. so as far as i can tell at this point is that the ski is all there except for the 587 in there instead of the 720. i will just run her until the 587 gives up the ghost. but being the stuff that i have read on the 587s and just what i have experienced the 587s are one tough motor.

not saying that anything was ever stolen, maybe just lost along the way and someone modded it, but that fact that everything is all there except the 720 is very wrong. I don't think you are understanding that the vin's were switched, which is HIGHLY illegal, and probably a felony. I think that's why ocod suggested this thread be closed. I'm not trying to be rude either, hope it doesn't come across the wrong way. Just enjoy your ski!
