1996 gsx no crank

I am working on a never ending project here but I just rebuilt top end in motor. Starter was from another ski just piecing one together here. Starter poss wire was melted from brush so I bought a starter rebuild kit. got everything installed into hull. Poured a little gas into cylinders and it started right up. Turned it off after hearing it fire, wanted to make sure that all oil lines looked good. went to restart and it wouldn't turn, like battery was not charged. Attempted to jump from non running battery, same not enough power it seemed. starter was super hot. stopped for the night, next day absolutly nothing when I put the key on anywhere.Beeper has been bad replacing today, but I pulled starter and same wire was melted. soldered together and still nothing. Started to test for power at diffrent points. starter button is good, if i jump power after mpem to starter it starter engages. Any input would be appreciated thanks. have all day off tomorrow would like to finish this up

ps I had the mpem out of the ski and put it back in same post , and key. I checked the wiring diagram 3 times before I ever had power hooked back up to it.
