Hi all. A new to me XP, in the process of restoring (another thread later). First go at this, enjoying thus far.

Anyone know what this is, that's circled? I've looked through all the parts fiche but can't figure this out.
Looks like it's connected to the VTS.IMG_1601.jpg
Cheers!

I have now done some reading on the VTS issues, and the DEI451, and it appears that's exactly what it is. Explains why I couldn't find it in the service manual or on the fiche!

How dare you not trust me. Lol. Totally kidding. I totally laughed when I saw it in that duct taped sammich container. Thank you for sharing that, totally made my day. And no, that won't show up on the fiche. Please, go over that ski with a fine with comb.

I just bought this from a guy who had redone the exterior. No more purple ;) It had smoke damage from the Fort McMurray forest fires a couple of years ago, and insurance paid him for the redo. It had a rod bearing gone when I got it. So, crank redone, new pistons, jugs honed, grey fuel lines replaced,
and new battery to start. Then on to the rest! This forum has been invaluable.

Ok. The VTS isn't working. The motor itself is; we put power to it directly. So we took the sandwich container apart, and this is what we found. Can anyone explain to me what's going on? Seems like 2 relays and 2 of something else + what looks like 2 fuses. Looks like a rats nest to me!

My guess is it's a work-around for your broken VTS module. This video explains how people are doing this:
