Hi,

I have a 95 spx and a 94 xp that ran great last time out...4 years ago. We have a river trip planned to park moabi in late august and I wanted to get these guys up and running so we can take them with us. Batteries were goners so I replaced them and closed my eyes and tried to fire them up.

Both do the same thing, there is a loud whine, like there is plenty of power but its not going anywhere.

Where do I start? I am guessing it can be 100 diff things but I am looking for somewhere to start.

Your guys' help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

If the starter is kicking, but the engine isn't spinning... the Bendix is slipping. Take it apart and clean it.

The other thing (this can be bad)... Being in SoCal... I'm assuming they weren't "Winterized" before being stored. If they weren't... the remaining water in the pipe could have rusted the internals of the engine.

Before going too much deeper... take out the spark plugs, and turn the engine over by hand. If they spin free... I'd throw some oil down the jugs, drain whatever fuel is in the tank (after 4 years it's bad), and then fix the starter.

Good luck

Alright I got the flywheel cover off. The wheel spins when I turn it. However, when I attempt to start it, the starter has a loud whine and the bendix moves very slowly, wondering if the starter needs replacing or the bendix needs greasing...guess we will start with the cheaper, much easier option!

greased up the bendix and now it engages the flywheel but it struggles to turn it. I can turn it by hand but not easily. I removed the spark plugs and gave it a go and the bendix spins the flywheel easily.

dont know what to do to get it fired up though...

Battery Charged

Are you sure the battery is charged? Sometimes when you buy a new battery they are not fully charged. I would put a trickle charger for several hours.

You can jump start your seadoo to another battery. If you do make sure that the vehicle that the doner battery is in is NOT running.

Yup.... what he said.

Just because it's a new battery, doesn't mean it has a good charge. After you fill a new battery with acid... it should sit for an hour, and be charged for a couple hours. at 1a~2a.

But... knowing how SeaDoo starters are... I would take it off, and disassemble it. It could be rusted in side... or it may need new brushes. Sometimes, you can just clean them up, and put them back in.

Fyi

You don't need to take the front cover off to access the flywheel to turn the motor over. There's a plastic cover/shield at the rear of the motor, loosen the two thumb screws, remove cover.

There's a PTO flywheel, while you're there, give the zerk fitting on the flywheel a couple of pumps of grease, just until the rubber boot starts to swell.
