Hey Guys,

Hope everyone is getting ready for summer !!!

So I started to dig Into the 95 spx again and have some updates and still no answers.....

I pulled the carb off a few months ago, Looks so clean you could eat off it, went through it all again, all looked hunky dory, cleaned it again ( 3rd time now ) and set the carbs to specs. Took her to the lake, started right up, no problems and took off.... First off it flys like a bat out of hell, almost to the point where it seams something is wrong because it should not be moving that fast, Ive had almost every 2 stroke Seadoo has made ( Still looking for that right RXX ) and this spx 657x is way faster than others.... So thats strange, its stock...... So it runs great, snappy throttle but at the peak of wot it dies dead in the water, hit the button starts right back up........ So when I first bought this back in 12', It came with an in Line pump, thought that was silly and rebuilt the carbs and took the inline out..... But after owning it for years and it always have this dumb problem ( Yes I park the ski and stop riding it ) and it goes on the back burner... My daughter is graduating and tons of family are coming down to Phoenix next week and wanted this running..... So is it just me and the ski needs the inline pump to keep enough fuel to the motor or what? Maybe an air leak? I did just start it last week, about a month since last in water and it fired right up and actually ran away, so its getting or had fuel in it still.... It seams the last owner had the same problem hence the inline needed...... Im going to pull it again and try something, I dont know...... Could the carb just be junk? I have a ton of parts, can I just put a twin 720 carb set up on the 657x motor, de-tune or something?

Ill also run a few tests on the stator just in case its that. I already have clipped the wires........

Anyways, would love to hear from you awesome people as always and just your thoughts on this :thumbsup::thumbsup:

A run away is a sign of an air leak. Could be carb or intake gasket or crank seals. By inline pump do you mean a primer?

No, it was like literally a 12v in line fuel pump, right in the main fuel line. Yeah I figured an air leak after last week start up. Could that be causing the fuel starvation at wot?

I have the same issue with my 95 spx, mine seems too fast for 3/4 throttle and just cuts out at full throttle. Please keep us updated when you solve your issue.

Try pressure testing the engine. Every time it dies at WOT, the engine is seizing. It could be the front crank seal. Remove the flywheel cover before you pressure test.

There is no reason for an electric pump on these carbed skis something is seriously wrong.

Just about to pull the carb and start doing some tests. I will leak down the motor asap........ Thanks for all the suggestions guys :-)

Ok so I tested the stator and leak down the motor and all is well there. I did notice that the carbs base gasket looked a little funny, so pulled the carbs, did tests on them and re set the factory specs. Put it all back together and it started right up, put it on the hose and ran it for a few mins and at the moment seams to be no problems, but under load is another story. Im going to the lake Monday, so I will know more then if it was the gasket or if its still broken..........

Ok, so I went out to the lake and everything seems to be fine. Was out for about 3 hours on the lake, ran perfectly. So it must of been the carb gaskets that were causing the problem.... Thanks again for all your help guys !!!
