I bought a new to me GTX for dirt cheap, all I have to do is clean it and she's ready for the water, but the paint scheme isn't my favorite, what would be the best way to paint all that isn't white. I also want to paint the plastic a different color. Im going to dye or reupholster the seat.

Use the same procedures you would with painting a car. The rub rails and plastic parts can be pulled of and replaced with other colors, or spray them as well. The rub rails will chip if you rub against docks or anything solid.

For the time money and trouble I would just buff out what you have and ride the heck out of it.

That's kind of what I was thinking, its my first ski so I think that's what I'm gonna do, I was exploring my options

You can find the hood in yellow also if you don't like the green and don't want to paint.

I'd be changing fuel lines, rebuilding carbs, and servicing the jet pump before jumping on looks

amen brother, a classic noob mistake is to focus on cosmetics while exploring mechanical issues.
< I've been guilty of that myself.

now, besides a good scrubbing down I don't even consider messing with cosmetics until i've been out on it twice and its runniing spot on.

curious which hood/seat combo's are compatible.

I have a mint (yellow) 96 gti seat and hood that are taking up space in my garage, keep meaning to list them up on CL but honestly I don't expect any buyers for more than $30 and just don't have the heart to throw them away.

I've heard something about changing the stock lines but what exactly is the problem and what do I replace them with?

the white cleans up very well in my experience. if its too chalky, I've used soft scrub and a kitchen pad, then compound, and if the wells are yellow, then wetsand, wax it up and the shine will return.

on fuel lines, just get some braided 1/4 inch fuel line at the auto store, buy a 25 foot roll and you'll have a couple feet left over.

(the fuel lines tend to deteriorate on the inside due to ethanol, a green goo develops (you'd see it on the brass nipples when you pop off the lines), replace one line at a time, ignore the vent lines, doesn't take that long.

Thank you I'll defiantly look at that, this thing has sat for a little bit so I'm not sure what the condition of the lines are.

sitting or running, the lines should be changed, $25 fix... might be the least expensive fix on any ski.

ps... they will be grey and say "tempo" on them, if they are black, then somebody did it for you.

You should clean the fuel selector switch or replace. It is also a cheep part. the carbs have small filters that will clog from the goo in the lines. Do some searching on the forum. You will learn a lot. I did. I started with a 95 GTS last year at this time, and she purrs now. I am working on two DI skis that need engines.

If you don't have the service manual, consider joining as a paid member, and download one here. There could be one on the net also, there is everything out there.
